Have you ever been away from your parents forever? Some times you may feel useless with out orders and may have diffrent actions. My claim is that Sam has mixed feelings for Caine.
I think this because they have waged war on each other and worked to getter for a common goal. As showen in the first book where Caine attacks Sam and his group. But in later books they have to work together.
